Fighting cybercrime with actionable knowledge

This year has marked the 35th anniversary of the SANS Institute and its provision of comprehensive cybersecurity education. A series of events has celebrated the generation of security professionals who have leveraged SANS training to fulfil their career objectives. Many have gained Global Information Assurance Certification (GIAC) qualifications, a standard that offers employers a reliable metric of cybersecurity excellence that they can count on.
SANS now offers more than 85 courses to professionals across 149 countries, and has issued around 240,000 GIAC certifications globally.
But cybersecurity training can’t afford to stand still and bask in past glories, which is why SANS is constantly working to update existing courses and create new ones. Here’s a sample of some of the events and courses it has planned for the UK in 2025:
– Monthly London-based training events led by world-renowned instructors and featuring exclusive access to live industry experts, hands-on labs, simulations, and exercises
– Along with ongoing popular courses, there will be new courses, including one on Cybercrime Intelligence, (FOR589) which offers a comprehensive exploration of the cybercrime underground, detailing the tactics and techniques used by cybercriminals to target organisations
– The new LINUX Incident Response and Threat Hunting course (FOR577) will teach the skills needed to identify, analyse and respond to attacks on Linux platforms and how to use threat hunting techniques to find the attackers who can bypass existing controls
– Cyber Incident Management (LDR553) will focus on the non-technical challenges facing senior management in times of extreme pressure
SANS has also updated and refreshed several existing courses, including:
– Cloud Security Architecture (SEC549) which teaches security professionals how to design an enterprise-ready, scalable cloud organisation
– Windows Forensic Analysis (FOR500) which builds in-depth digital forensics knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating systems by analysing and authenticating forensic data
– Advanced Incident Response Threat Hunting, and Digital Forensics (FOR508) teaches response tactics and procedures for those who don’t want to rely on antiquated techniques that fail to identify compromised systems
– Cybersecurity Engineering: Advanced Threat Detection and Monitoring (SEC511) gives practitioners skills in cybersecurity engineering for cloud, network, and endpoint environments
It’s hard to overstress the importance of continuous training for cyber security professionals working in the ever-changing cybersecurity industry. Cyber threats must be met with the highest levels of expertise and with practical and actionable knowledge.
