Celebrating the life of Tamir Segal
Trend Micro may be a global organization of more than 5,000 employees, but we’re also a tight-knit family. So it was with great sadness and shock that we heard of the passing of Tamir Segal, who has served as our Israel Country Manager for the past eight years. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this difficult time.
Making a difference
Tamir enriched the lives of everyone he worked with — as evidenced by the huge outpouring of sadness and sympathy that greeted the news of his untimely passing. We’ve been inundated with tributes to the man. They tell of an optimistic, kind, smart and creative talent, a dedicated and modest but energetic and bright member of the team. Tamir was an inspirational manager — someone who always took the time to listen and consult his team, but also led by example. And he was a fantastic sales person, regularly pulling in major six-figure wins.
The scores of endorsements on Tamir’s LinkedIn profile page will tell you of the high esteem in which he was held by partners, colleagues and everyone he worked with. As CEO of several start-ups in the 1990s Tamir honed his entrepreneurial flair. Most notably, as boss of New Age Ventures, he helped to build what became a global success story in Playtech — now the world’s largest supplier of online gaming and sports betting software.
Joining Trend Micro in 2010 from internet company Walla! Communications, Tamir became a key strategic figure, his humour and kindness winning him friends wherever he went.
Some tributes
We don’t have the space to republish all of the huge number of tributes we’ve received to our much-loved colleague Tamir. Here’s a relatively small selection which will hopefully still illustrate just how much he meant to those he worked with:
“It was a great shock for me to learn of Tamir’s passing. Rest in Peace, Tamir, your love for new technology and your encouragement to young Trenders, will forever stay with us.” – Eva Chen, Trend Micro CEO.
“I will remember him as a passionate technologist at heart and always the ever-optimist. He was also a very proud man and it did not take long to understand how proud he was of his family, Trend & his team , his customers & partners and of course his Country. I had the incredible fortune to be in Israel in Q1 of this year and experience all of this first hand. He was so optimistic that he was beating this terrible disease. I did not realize I was saying goodbye.” – Kevin Simzer, Trend Micro COO
“Though I met Tamir only a few times at company events, I was always impressed by his optimism and positive spirit. I join the family in sharing the sorrow of this loss.” – Mahendra Negi, Trend Micro CFO.
“I had the privilege of working with a truly talented person who built success with his own hands. A person who always listened to and consulted with his staff. People admired Tamir professionally and personally and welcomed the wonderful person he was. Rest in peace.” – Dikla Elias, Marketing Manager, Zebra Technologies.
“Tamir was a unique figure — always ready to offer advice no matter what his role or the organization he represented. He was truly a trusted advisor and will be a huge loss to the Israeli cyber-scene.” Sharon Mashadi, Head of Cyber Research, Bank Hapoalim.
We’ll miss you Tamir. Rest in peace.
