REvil Ransomware Hits Jack Daniel’s Manufacturer
Attackers who targeted US spirits manufacturer Brown-Forman reportedly stole a terabyte of confidential data.
Brown-Forman, a major US manufacturer of alcoholic beverage brands including Jack Daniel’s and Finlandia, has reportedly been targeted with a REvil/Sodinokibi ransomware attack.
The Louisville, Ky.-based company was able to intervene before attackers could encrypt its systems, Bloomberg reports. It’s now working with law enforcement and third-party experts to mitigate the incident. While there is no confirmation on when the attack took place, a Forbes report indicates the intruders were in Brown-Forman’s environment for more than a month.
In an anonymous message to Bloomberg, attackers claimed to copy a terabyte of confidential data and said they would publish it. The website where they promised to share the information lists the victims of REvil ransomware, also known as Sodinokibi, a prolific ransomware-as-a-service threat that emerged on the threat landscape in early 2019.
